You know you, and your business, best. It is highly important however to consider some design and content strategies before proceeding.
Things to consider when creating your website:

What are your goals?
Do you want to create brand awareness, sell a product / service,  to be informative – a combination of these? Be specific!

SEO (search engine optimization)
Write down words and phrases that you associate with your website/business.

These Keywords will help people find you more easily on search engines/Google – i.e. they will be the words you will want to use in your content and text on your website.

How people would normally look for your type of product or service? Often people are using terms and phrases that you might not think of. Some words/phrases have double meanings.
Avoid these pitfalls; research keywords with Google Trends before you start writing.
Also research your competitors what keywords are they using?
Keep in mind keywords your competitors are not using – you may be able to leverage these to your SEO advantage.

You need to decide which keywords you want to rank well for, and integrate them into your copy and metadata of your website.

You cannot come up first with every search someone does in the search engine for your industry. You can make sure you  position yourself to come up with the most relevant searches for your business goals.

WordPress is considered the preferred platform to use for best search engine optimization and page ranking. WordPress, has excellent plugins for just that (eg. ‘Yoast SEO’)

A Call to Action button  that is inline with your marketing strategy is highly recommended (often placed in the 1st fold on your homepage) . This could include an email newsletter sign-up, blog display, or services outlined.
Do not overdo the call to action and risk a messy, confusing design.

Contact Info
Make sure the information you want on your website (eg.  name/business/company, phone number, email/fax, services, testimonials, etc.) is easily available/visible.
A main customer complaint about websites is that too often crucial information is not easy to find.
Consider your location – what area(s) will you service and do you want address info on your website?  Choose your area and make it consistent throughout all social media related to your business.

Final suggestions/summary:
Research – Google Trends, Google Analytics and Google/Bing Webmaster.
– your competitors websites (for both design ideas/likes & dislikes, keywords, image use, etc.).

Think simple, clean, easy on the eyes, easy to navigate/user friendly,  strategic design.
